The Next Idina Menzel

I did something really scary yesterday.....

We had our Annual Meeting yesterday at work. Between my boss and I we were pretty stressed and wanted everything to be really nice and run smoothly. We both had our fair share of nightmares leading up to this event. Mine had been that I had to sing the National Anthem and I totally butchered it. And when I say butchered it, I mean off key, squeaking, anything bad that could happen while singing it happened.

So as we were getting close to go time I realized the student who was supposed to sing the National Anthem wasn't there. I was getting really nervous, knowing I'd have to sing it if she didn't show. As the President got up to do announcements she looked back at me to find out if the girl was here. I gave her the signal that she wasn't and she went ahead and announced me. She was great and gave the attendees a heads up on what was about to happen. She told them I hadn't sung it since high school and I had about five minutes warning.

Don't get me wrong, I love singing. I do it all the time. But I don't perform all that often anymore. Actually I don't perform at all outside of church. I kind of want to get back into performing...just maybe.

I was shaking so bad! My leg would not stop! I didn't get to practice, I didn't get to warm up my voice, and I didn't even have enough time to breath! But I did it!!!! I got up in front of 160 people (not counting those watching on television). People I work with, people from the city and the state. I sang the National Anthem. Now I'm definitely not saying I want to do it again, but it really felt good knowing that I was brave enough to go up and do something that was terrifying for me. And after my mom watched the video of it later she told me it was the best she'd ever heard me do. Coming from my mom that means so much!

Did I tell you the emcee called me "Idina Menzel Sierra Burton"?? Yeah keep your ears open guys, I'll be staring in the next Disney movie. HA!

Seems like the theme in my life lately really is "I can do hard things".

Let me just say as soon as I was done in my head I was singing "FREEEEDOMMMM!!!" HAHA!
